About

The DC Institute membership model is designed to put plan sponsors’ needs first and foremost, with an agenda unconstrained by anything other than the mandate to provide a forum for the dissemination of the forward-most thought leadership and discussion of the ideas. The membership’s mission is to help plan sponsors do their jobs so that they can better meet the needs of their participants.

With the help of our esteemed advisory board, we are excited to bring you the very first look of our 2018 Agenda.

2018 Preliminary Agenda Highlights

Accumulation AND Decumulation: “And” – Not “Or”

We’re all born. (At least those of us reading this program). We grow up. Some of us go to college, most of us go to work at some point. Then we age, and at some point a lucky few get to sail their boat off Palm Beach while others buy a double-wide with an L extension outside Joplin Missouri and are forced to work part-time as a greeter at Walmart. And while Fortune plays an inordinate role in how this story ends for each of us as individuals, it’s the stages in between when we have the most influence over our Fate.

That’s why this year’s Symposium program is going to buck the recent trend in the DC community to focus predominantly on retirement readiness. Instead, we will make every effort to explore both sides of the retirement success story: The best strategies and methodologies for building a solid financial for a secure retirement as well as the best – and still emerging – thought leadership in retirement income solutions.

So in the best Socratic tradition, discussions at this year’s Defined Contribution Symposium will be formatted around defending commonly accepted principles of plan design, plan management, and the very definition of plan success. The premise of each session will be that the subject matter has to be defended in a constructive manner with the objective of possibly taking good ideas – which the DC industry is built upon – and making them better.
